Game Over

Dabrye (an alias of Ann Arbor’s Tadd Mullinix) is best known for creating head-nodding beats with saw-tooth bass lines and a keen eye for forward-thinking production. With support from both the hip-hop underground and the electronic music press, he has earned a place in URB’s Next 100 and XLR8R’s Top 100 albums, among other accolades. The Dabrye trilogy began with One/Three in 2001, which was followed by the Instrmntl mini-album for Scott Herren’s (Prefuse 73) Eastern Developments label. Both releases earned glowing reviews for their handmade rhythmic style and minimalist execution. 2006’s Two/Three LP steps up the beatmaking ingenuity and spotlights Mullinix’s favorite underground MCs, including Doom, J Dilla, Vast Aire, and Wildchild to create a major statement for the new Hip-Hop sound of Detroit.

Are u there?

Artist: Billy Dalessandro
Title: Are You There? EP
Format: 12” Vinyl | Digital
Release Date: (Vinyl - February 2008 )

Coming off of his monster releases “Don’t Sleep” and “That Trick She Knows”, Siteholder’s own kung fu master Billy Dalessandro returns with “Are You There?” – another bomb that will definitely not make it through airport security undetected. Explosive kicks serenade a nasty acid line over a signature Dalessandro-style vocal; this peak timer is no holds barred techno Armageddon.New York based Clink Recording’s artist Elon makes his debut appearance for the Siteholder team with a storming remix. Twisted effects, a unique take on the vocal, and a pulsating bass line define this hard-hitting approach. Fearless in its pursuit and certainly without any room for prisoners, this re-working of “Are You There” comes out of the gate sprinting and never lets down. Rounding out the EP, Brian Ffar follows up his highly successful “Ballroom Hustler” EP with a take on the single reflecting his cultivated production style. An atmospheric tech house approach reveals well-placed synths over the drawn out vocal from the original. But don’t assume this is child’s play, Ffar’s kick drum isn’t afraid to pummel a club system’s subs.

Dear Matthew;

Matthew Dear crafts beautifully textured electronic pop, which can be heard on his new album, Asa Breed. With his new arsenal of songs, Matthew creates a completely fresh musical experience that has received an overwhelming amount of feedback from both fans and press worldwide.Asa Breed, out on his home label Ghostly International, is the most accomplished project to date from this prolific artist. It follows his pop-infused debut, ”Leave Luck to Heaven”, which caught mainstream attention, garnering 4 stars in Rolling Stone, and helped him land remix duties for the Postal Service, Chemical Brothers and Hot Chip. He has also reached techno superstardom with his globe-spanning DJ sets and the classic club rocking single “Mouth to Mouth” under his dance floor alias Audion.Upcoming Asa Breed Black Edition, he is happy to release “Don’t Go This Way”.Written during the recording sessions for Asa Breed but previously unreleased, is now available exclusively on our RCRD LBL blog.“Dont Go This Way” is another enigmatic pop gem from Matthew with a hypnotic, almost tribal percussive stance, complete with disembodied falsettos swirling in and out over the deep, neatly compressed kick. Synth stabs pile onto each other building the suspense only to pull back- a sly and calculated anti-climax from an artist for whom tension has always been an instrument of choice.

[IC002]Tala - Mandragora (Inc. Cosmic Sandwich Remix)

Iconise’s second release features four variations on a deep techno theme, as we invite three distinct production talents to remix Tala’s ‘Mandragora’.Based in Argentina, Tala debuted with his acclaimed remix of ‘War In Donga’ (Iconise 001). Deep and heartfelt, Tala style is a blend of springing, melody-heavy techno (think Sascha Funke, or maybe Superpitcher) with the stripped-back feel of contemporary minimal house. His original version of ‘Madragora’ is a low paced, quietly romantic pulser, ideal for deeper dancefloor moments, or late night listening pleasure.Fittingly for a Brighton-based label, we’re pleased to welcome Cosmic Sandwich on remix duties. A born and bread local, Steve Barnes relocated to Cologne some years back, and went on to produced a string of acclaimed tracks and remixes for Traum, Trapez and My Best Friend. His warm, dub-spiked rework tweaks the pace for a plaintive club-burner in his typically rich style.Next up we welcome newcomer Marcel Oelke, a brand new German talent. His remix strips the original back to its minimal roots, inserting a bumping contemporary groove and a smattering of textured harmonics. Smart, unpretentious and brimming with potential, it’s a fine start from this young artist.Finally, we return to Brighton for Danzai’s remix. Layering dripping percussion clips over Detroit-ish string swathes and a deftly arranged groove, it’s a fittingly emotive end to the release.
